Golf driving tips for adding more yards
Let’s face it, if we drive the ball 300 yards we really don’t care about the rest of our game that much do we? I mean, driving the ball far is about the most macho thing any guy can do. But, there are some golf driving tips that allow you (and I) to drive the ball further without a lot of effort. Here are a few golf driving tips I’ve found to work:
1. Stay balanced: do you ever notice how PGA pros look as if they barely swung the club? Yet the ball goes 300 yards almost every time! The reason their swings look effortless comes down to one word – balance! This is one of the golf driving tips that you should remember above all else!
2. Swing at 90%: Even PGA pros don’t go at the ball 100%. The reason being is that they realize there is a point of no return where they will have NO CONTROL over their ball. So, they throttle back just a little bit but still hit it far due to #1.
3. Follow through: Don’t hit “at” the ball but hit “through” the ball. Let the ball get in the way of a beautiful and balanced golf swing! This is probably the most forgotten of the golf driving tips out there!
These three golf driving tips are just the tip of the iceberg in driving the ball like a pro. Check out the rest of the blog and I’ll share even more golf swing basics with you that are designed to lower your handicap by 7 strokes or more!
Now on to part TWO of golf driving tips that will rock your world . . .
Okay, we talked about some golf driving tips that allow every man or woman to drive the ball a bit further. We talked about the importance of staying balanced, swing at less than 100% effort and following through. These three golf driving tips are important but they are not the entire puzzle. Here are a few more basics that I’ve found to be important.
1. Grip Lightly: Most golfers grip the club too tightly. As a result they shut down the fast twitch muscles of the arm and decrease club head speed. Hold the club as if you are holding a baby bird. You’ll be surprised at the “swish” you make when you swing!
2. Visualize Your Shot: All good golfers see the shot in their mind before they ever take a swing. Give it a try and I think you’ll be surprised by the results!
3. Do the Waltz: This basic tip from Sam Snead is probably the best I’ve found. What he advised an amateur he was playing with is to sing the waltz in his head. Then, he told the amateur to swing based on the rhythym of the song. It put the golfer in perfect harmony and balance throughout the swing. Not surprisingly he played the best round of his life!
Golf tips are a dime a dozen. But, golf swing basics stand the test of time and if we truly want to lower our handicap we need to apply principles like above. Good luck!
